The green backing paper, to which the storyboards are attached, contains key VFX notes (e.g. information about animation, matte paintings, and background plates) as well as multi-colored stamps. The artist, David Russell, was responsible for storyboarding several other parts of the throne room sequence, including the moment Darth Vader chooses to betray the Emperor to save Luke.

ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Storyboard Drawings show what’s moving in each shot, and in which direction, so that the production team is crystal clear on the desired end result – which is exactly what a professional storyboard should do.
