Pluto
MEDIUM: Original Model Sheet Print
PRODUCTION: Walt Disney Studio, 1937
IMAGE SIZE: 10" x 12.5"
SKU: CCV1611
ABOUT THE IMAGE: This printed model sheet was made at the Disney Studio production of the short cartoons of the late 1930s and issued to animators for their use in drawing Pluto. It was produced as part of a standardization of the refined appearance of the characters that took place in that period.
Production of the shorts was a continuing process that spanned far more years than the making of a single feature or one-shot cartoon; it is likely for that reason that lithography was chosen for reproduction instead of the photostatic process.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: A model sheet is a group of character drawings illustrating different poses and expressions of a cartoon character. Because a number of artists worked on a single cartoon, these sheets were circulated to the animators to give a uniform look and feel to a character throughout a production.
