The Princess and the Frog is a 2009 American animated musical fantasy romantic comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures based on E. D. Baker’s novel The Frog Princess. It is set in New Orleans, Louisiana during the 1920s. The film follows Tiana, a waitress who dreams of opening her own restaurant, and Prince Naveen, a spoiled prince who has been turned into a frog by a voodoo sorcerer named Dr. Facilier. When Tiana kisses Naveen to break his curse, she also becomes a frog. Together, they embark on an adventure through the bayou to find Mama Odie, a voodoo queen who can restore their human forms. Along the way, they meet new friends such as Louis, an alligator who loves jazz music; Ray, a firefly who is in love with a star; and Charlotte, Tiana’s childhood friend who is obsessed with fairy tales. They also face dangers from Dr. Facilier’s shadow minions and his allies: Lawrence, Naveen’s former valet; Reggie, Darnell, and Two Fingers, three frog hunters. The film explores themes such as love, friendship, ambition, identity, and culture.
