Peter Ellenshaw
About the Artist
Peter Ellenshaw was an English designer who is known for his work on classic Disney movies, including Mary Poppins, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Born on May 24, 1913, in London, United Kingdom, Ellenshaw went on to apprentice with W. Percy Day, a well-known special effects artist and matte painter at Disney. In 1993, he was named a Disney Legend, which recognized his integral contribution to the Walt Disney Company. After retiring from the film industry, the artist devoted his life to painting seascapes, landscapes, and occasionally depictions of Winnie the Pooh. Ellenshaw died on February 12, 2007, in Santa Barbara, CA.
