ABOUT THE SERIES: The Smurfs is a Hanna-Barbera cartoon series which aired on NBC from September 12, 1981 until December 2, 1989. It was based on the Belgian comic series The Smurfs by Peyo. The show follows the group of tiny blue creatures who live together in mushroom houses in a peaceful forest. They repeatedly try to outwit Gargamel, an evil sorcerer, his apprentice, Scruple, and his mangy cat, Azrael.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: A model sheet is a group of character drawings illustrating different poses and expressions of a cartoon character. Because a number of artists worked on a single cartoon, these sheets were circulated to the animators to give a uniform look and feel to a character throughout a production.
