Jim Lee

About the Artist

Jim Lee is a Korean-American comic book artist, writer, editor, and publisher, best known for his work with DC Comics. He was born on August 11, 1964, in Seoul, South Korea, but grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, after his family immigrated to the United States when he was four years old. Lee's career in comics began in the late 1980s when he joined Marvel Comics as an artist. He quickly made a name for himself with his dynamic, highly detailed style, and his work on titles such as "Uncanny X-Men" and "Punisher War Journal" helped to redefine the look of superhero comics. In 1992, Lee left Marvel to co-found Image Comics, a new publishing venture with several other prominent artists. At Image, Lee created his own series, "WildC.A.T.s," which quickly became one of the company's flagship titles.

In 1998, Lee sold Wildstorm Productions, his imprint at Image Comics, to DC Comics, and became an executive at DC. He continued to work on his own comics, such as "Batman: Hush," which he wrote and drew, and "All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder," which he illustrated. In addition to his work as an artist and writer, Lee has served as an editor and publisher at DC Comics. He was instrumental in launching the company's successful "New 52" initiative in 2011, which involved relaunching its entire superhero line with new #1 issues.

Throughout his career, Lee has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the comics industry. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2017 and has been named one of the most influential people in the industry by publications such as Wizard Magazine and The Hollywood Reporter. Outside of comics, Lee is also a philanthropist and entrepreneur. He co-founded the multimedia entertainment company, Seven Bucks Productions, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his wife Lauren Hashian, and is a supporter of several charitable organizations, including The Hero Initiative and The Samfund. Today, Jim Lee is considered one of the most talented and influential comic book artists of his generation, and his work continues to inspire and entertain readers around the world.
