ABOUT THE IMAGE: This black, red, and blue train was created for Disney's Paul Bunyan that was released on 8/1/1958 and told the story of the North American folk hero of the same name. The train appears at roughly 14:10 as Babe the Blue Ox leans close and threatens it, mirroring what Paul is doing to the chainsaw salesman Joe Muffaw.
ABOUT THE FILM: Paul Bunyan is a 1958 American animated musical short film produced by Walt Disney Productions. The short was based on the North American folk hero and lumberjack Paul Bunyan and was inspired after meeting with Les Kangas of Paul Bunyan Productions, who gave Disney the idea for the film. The film was directed by Les Clark, a member of Disney's Nine Old Men of core animators. Thurl Ravenscroft starred as the voice of Paul Bunyan. Eyvind Earle was in charge of art direction.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Original Production Cels are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that were used in the creation of an animated film or television show. Each has been hand-painted by studio artists on a piece of celluloid acetate, and has been photographed over a background painting to create a frame of the finished production.
