ABOUT THE IMAGE: This full figure drawing was created by Manuel Gonzales to further explore and practice drawing Mickey Mouse for his introductory dance, found at about 0:45-49 in The Little Whirlwind. The artwork has been rendered and signed in graphite on 12 field 5 peghole animation paper. Gonzales (1913 - 1993) was a two-time "Mousecar" award-winning artist who helped with in-between animation, comic strips, and publicity art at the studio.
ABOUT THE FILM: The Little Whirlwind is an animated short produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures on February 14, 1941. The film was directed by Riley Thomson, and animated by Ward Kimball, Fred Moore, Ken Muse, Jim Armstrong, Les Clark, John Elliotte, Fred Jones, Walt Kelly, and Frank Follmer with effects animation by Art Fitzpatrick. It was the 110th short in the Mickey Mouse film series to be released, and the first for that year.
The short involves Mickey Mouse's attempts to help Minnie with her yard work, despite the presence of several (anthropomorphic) twisters as foils.
