ABOUT THE IMAGE: Premiering on television in September 1996, Superman: The Animated Series is an American superhero animated television series produced by Warner Bros. Animation and based on the DC Comics character of the same name. It was the second series in the DC Animated Universe, following the hugely successful BATMAN: The Animated Series, and was acclaimed for its thematic complexity, quality animation and writing, faithfulness to the source material, voice acting, maturity, and modernization of the title character's comic-book mythos. The series exists in a world of the future, a glittering, gleaming sci-fi Metropolis, with Superman as another citizen of the art-deco D.C. Comics universe created by the creative team of Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett. However, beneath the shiny surface of this seeming utopia is its sinister, controlling figurehead, Lex Luthor, whose domination is threatened by the sudden appearance of the morally just and apparently invincible Kryptonian, Superman. This piece comes with a certificate of authenticity.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Original production cels are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that were used in the creation of an animated film or television show. Each has been hand-painted by studio artists on a piece of celluloid acetate, and has been photographed over a background painting to create a frame of the finished production.
