ABOUT THE IMAGE: This original hand-inked and painted full-figure cel of Woody Woodpecker was created in the Lantz Studio Ink and Paint Department and photographed during the making of the animated cartoon directed by Paul J. Smith. Mistaken for a space alien, a crowd presses in on Woody, so he takes on this delightful expression and chases them all away with three blasts from his "signalizer" gun. The Studio designation "31" is written in black ink at lower right to make this original's place in the film.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Original production cels are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that were used in the creation of an animated film or television show. Each has been hand-painted by studio artists on a piece of celluloid acetate, and has been photographed over a background painting to create a frame of the finished production.
